Julie Karlson and I were birding at Buck Creek State Park this morning and
almost back to the car when we spotted a bird moving in the brush. We looked
and were very surprised to see an Empidonax flycatcher. I told Julie to
watch it while I ran back to the car to get my camera. I got back and we
found the bird again and followed it for several minutes and I took pictures
of the bird. We called Brian Menker and Larry Jeanblanc and they both
arrived in a little while. We had lost the bird but a few minutes later we
spotted it again but only for half a minute. We drove home and I looked at
my pictures. It pumped its tail up but otherwise acted like a flycatcher.
Julie saw it find a caterpillar so it was finding food. I have posted
several pictures on eBird. I would appreciate any ideas on what species it
is. My best guess is Yellow-bellied, Cordilleran, or Pacific Slope since it
was very green on the back. Here is a link to the eBird list.
