Yesterday afternoon at the Darby wetlands Brad Sparks and I found a few
shorebirds in blustery weather and higher water:
2 golden-plovers
2 black-bellied plovers
3 red-necked phalaropes
1 greater yellowlegs
5 lesser yellowlegs
1 sanderling
6 semipalmated sandpipers
12 least sandpipers
  no killdeers

three northern harriers, seen simultaneously

waterbirds including pintails, shovelers, blue- and green-winged teals,
wood ducks, mallards, Canada geese (only a few), three surprisingly
early skittish tundra swans, coots, p-g grebes

Wind kept most smaller birds in cover. There is now an extensive network
of mowed paths throughout the 800+acre property; one runs along the
eastern edge of the shorebird pond, making morning viewing convenient.
Parking remains 500 yards to the north, at the lot at Kuhlwein and Darby
Creek Drive. We saw construction equipment on the west side of the
Drive, probably getting ready to work on the new nature center.
