While sitting on my prairie deck at 6:00 pm, I heard the very distinctive cronk of a sandhill crane. About 15 seconds later, one crane flew directly over head towards clouse lake. How lucky can you get. This is a year yard bird, and only about the third of fourth sighting ever.
On the way back to the house (1/4 mile) I heard another cronk, likely the same bird, now heading back north. However, Perry County birders, both of you, might want to keep your ears and eyes open.
