Thinking that Sunday's odd weather conditions may have suppressed birds on
this reservoir for the Audubon field trip, I revisited this site yesterday
afternoon. Sure enough, the calmer conditions have allowed typical winter
birds to set up shop here, just in time for local CBCs. Among the notables
were:

Dabbling Ducks - the big flock of Mallards has returned to the spillway,
and included in its numbers were 1 Wood Duck, 3 N,Shovelers, and 4 Gadwall

Diving Ducks - a flock of 14 Lesser Scaup were above the dam, along with
25-30 Hooded Mergansers

Other waterfowl - no grebes apparent, but there were 12 cormorants

Raptors - a juvenile Bald Eagle came soaring down the reservoir, made a
half-hearted pass at some scaup, then headed down the gorge below the dam

Gulls - a big flock of nearly 300 Ring-bills was assembled above the dam,
and included 20+ Bonapartes and 5-6 Herring. As with Alum Creek Lake, this
might be a good spot to check in the late afternoon as winter progresses
for unusual gulls.

Landbirds - the spillway area below the dam was unremarkable, except for a
Mockingbird and a mixed flock of sparrows including Song, White-throats,
Tree, and Juncos.
