Wanting a change of scenery, I figured chasing over 40 White Pelicans would be fun and I had only been to this park I think once before. I did finally find the pelicans although they were on the opposite side of the lake so no photo ops. They apparently had been closer to the E shore earlier in the morning.

The only vantage point I could find was from the Horseman's Camp turn-off on the northeast end of the lake. A bit of a walk to the lake from the parking lot.

Waterfowl were also clustered on the far side but with a scope, I was able to see large numbers of Red-breasted Mergansers, a few Commons. Couple Ruddies, my FOS Coots, a nice raft of about 10 or 12 birds. Also had some Bufflehead and Scaup. Did not see a Long-tailed but given the distance, I could have missed it.

Heard a Greater Yellowlegs call in flight but did not see any shorebirds.

Ring-billed & Herring Gulls.

At the little pond by the dam, I picked up gadwall and mallards. I tried to find a trail down to the western shore but was unsuccessful but had a very pleasant walk on the Buckhorn Trail—beautiful day to be out.

After reading Rob Thorn’s post, I imagine I’ll head to Delaware wildlife area tomorrow.

Still a couple juncos at my feeders.

Peggy
