Mainly. I don't consider Montgomery county as part of my
8 county SW Ohio zone. Not changing things now! First
Stop - Winton Woods - Red Crossbills. Success! After a couple
Hours. They are being typical Crossbills from what I know of
Them. Moving all over! Every now and then they get into a routine.
For several days….. and then it changes again! Thanks Brian W!
He heard them. And we saw the flock in flight for a bit. There’s
A Wood Duck pair there also at the campground. The place was
Much less birdy than my previous visit. Why? Ha! I wish I could
Figure that out! You would think with the raw, cold weather the
Birds would be out feeding more……
Off to a January Western Grebe! That’s for my lifetime Ohio
Monthly list. I got lists for everything! Went to the closest spot
I know of for the Iceland. Nuttin. Lots of rb mainly. With some Herring.
And a Merlin feasting on something! That was gory to watch!
I want to wait until I have most of the day to explore that corridor. I'll
Follow Robert’s list!
I thought that Butler county Middletown Great Miami River road crossing
Looked good for birds. Sure enough….! I didn’t find them. Another birder
Did - Dunlin, Least Sandpiper, And Killdeer. Good January birds!
And not too far from the west Carrollton spot. 10 miles? I do want to
Explore this Great Miami River corridor much better. I believe the
Furthest north Hamilton County spot is Heritage Park.
Fernald to pick up ducks. There’s quite a good number on lodge pond now.
Although I missed the Canvasback by a minute or two. Not good! Two friends had
It, we started counting other ducks, tried to refind. And couldn’t. It might have
Flown to the weapons pond. I'll check next week! I'll check next week, I have
Other plans for my 2 half days birding Tues. and Wed.
No shorties from the site overlook, but didn’t stay too late. A GHO calling was
Nice!
Good birding all.
