This information will also be posted on Birding Ohio Facebook page.

On October 29, 2017, Jay Lehman was elected as Secretary of OBRC, replacing
Jack Stenger, who can not continue due to the pressures of teaching,
graduate school for PhD in Ornithology and family. Dan Sanders continues
as Vice-Secretary, a position he took on this past summer.

Special thanks to Jack Stenger for his significant contributions including
electronic online review and voting of records, review and approval of new
species for Ohio, Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Kelp Gull, Great Cormorant and
Western Flycatcher (provisional contingent on lumping Pacific-slope and
Cordilleran Flycatcher). Also, a back-log of thirty one (31) species have
been reviewed with fifteen (15) approved and four (4) for recirculation.
In the interest of brevity, see below for species list of approved records
and those to be recirculated.

Also, special thanks to Bill Whan, a founding father of OBRC, who sadly
left the committee earlier this year. We will miss Bill's significant
knowledge of Ohio birds. And thank you also to Doug Vogus, Rick Nirschl
and Jay Stenger who rotated off the OBRC this year. Thank you, Gentlemen.

To allow for more direct communication with Ohio's birding community, Su
Snyder has created a Facebook page, Ohio Bird Records Committee under Jack
Stenger as Secretary. For those on Facebook, you will need to join.
Details of recent actions are there, but this FB page had not been
previously announced to the public. This FB page will not replace
publication in The Cardinal.

For those who submitted records directly (but not on-line at Ohio
Ornithological Society) to the previous Secretary before Jack Stenger
during 2014/2015, please provide those records to Dan Sanders and me (Jay
Lehman). We want those records, which now seem to be missing, for a
complete historical ornithological record for Ohio.

The committee has access to electronic records submitted on-line on the
Ohio Ornithological Society website. There should be no need to resubmit
those.

And finally, for those not on Facebook, here is the list of fifteen (15)
records approved in 2016: Painted Bunting,11/11/14; Bohemian Waxwing,
03/23/15; Prairie Falcon, 022/15; Loggerhead Shrike, 05/28/15; White-winged
Dove, 06/19/15; White-faced Ibis, 06/26/15; Brambling, 13/19/15;
Black-headed Gull, 12/24/15; Western Greene, 01/03-09/16; Mew Gull,
01/12/16; Painted Bunting, 02/12/16; Western Tanager, 05/04/16; Glossy
Ibis, 05/04/16; Plegadis Ibis, 05/06/16 and Curlew Sandpiper. Records for
recirculation are Cinnamon Teal, 09/14/14; White-winged Dove, 04/22/2016;
Rock Wren, 11/15/14 and Neotropic Cormorant, 08/13/16.

Looking forward to working with Ohio Birders.

All the best.

Jay Lehman
OBRC Secretary
