Target bird seen well near its reported spot on dike side (left) of pond. First seen around 1:45pm. Flew across dike at one point but came back relatively quickly after some preening.

Then it went from the grass tussocks, occasionally Crossing the path & spending some time along the pond edge in the weeds and then would fly back low across the path.

Often the bird would be buried in the grass but the best strategy seemed to be to stand quietly where it was last seen as it would quite often pop up from under the grass in full view, often preening and looking around before going back down.

Once in awhile it would do a high-pitched chip. The bird seemed pretty relaxed and the above strategy seemed to work well for the four birders who were here looking for it. It did not associate w/other sparrows.

Beautiful bird. Thx again to all the folks who sent great directions.
