Still at Headlands Beach SP, on the beach, when I left just before 11:00.
Still returning to the same spot by the green upturned lifeguard chair.
Also a couple of sanderlings w/ a semipalmated sandpiper.
Sidelight, but so interesting. I was watching a buck moving along
the tree line, when he turned, and at a run tore across the sand, scattering the flock of 500
gulls sitting on the beach (ringbills w/ a smattering of herring gulls) and then he
plunged into the lake and swam out, and out, and out.
I assume he is getting rid of the flies and ticks and numerous biting insects that must
plague the deer. Never saw him return.
