I was passing by the Deer Creek area this evening and made a quick visit. Better late than never, the reservoir is finally getting drawn down and the first mudflats are appearing at the north end in time for the tail end of the shorebird movement through the state. Shorebirds present today included ~50 Killdeeers, ~12 Dunlins, and smaller numbers of Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs and Stilt, Pectoral and Least Sandpipers. There has also been a influx of gulls throughout the whole reservoir. Joining the three common species were 2 FRANKLIN'S GULLS, and a Common Tern. November can be one of the best months to visit the reservoir and things can only get more interesting from here on.

I didn't have time to check any part of the wetlands area, but I did poke around at a few spots in the N end of the DCWA. White-crowned Sparrows and Fox Sparrows are at the peak of the numbers right now. In about a half hour I saw ~50 White-crowneds and ~20 Foxes scattered in several areas. Field Sparrow numbers are dwindling and no Am Tree Sparrows have arrived yet that I could detect. Swamp, Vesper, Savannah, White-throated, and Song Sparrows were also in the flocks.
