Red - breasted Mergs back in force at various spots. From me and other
Birders. Not much different otherwise waterfowl wise. Except the numbers
Of Horned Grebes at Hueston Woods was good. At least 9 there. There’s 2
Different scanning areas. The dam and Cole’s Staircase. And the waterfowl
Can be different. There’s coves that are only viewable from one of the
Viewpoints. I could use RN Grebe. Hueston woods had the best numbers
Of RB Mergs. Mostly drakes.

A fellow Butler birder told me about a pond near Ellis Wetlands. A nice
Spot! Good variety. Alas nothing new for my big year except Tree Swallows
Back. This is a new construction pond. That will probably be sterile
For birds by next year….. this whole area is seeing a massive development
Campaign.

Lesser Scaup, a couple Greater, Redheads, RN Ducks, etc. the usual around.
I did some passerine birding - looking for owls. Not much success on either
Front there.

I felt good about getting woodcock at dusk at Voice of America. Been a lot
Reported from there. Well, this is me - that’s a hard species for me to hear
Anymore unless close. One wasn’t. I kept scanning the sky hoping for one
Doing its flight display. No….. oh well, 200 is still possible!

Good birding all.
