Fellow impatient for spring migration birders,
It was a very pleasant evening, so I decided to go up to our prairie and look/listen for woodcocks. Didn’t have to wait long. At 6:31 heard the first peents and then the first flight just a few minutes later. Over the next ten minutes, heard a total of three peent sessions and two flights, all quite close.
We have three Adirondack chairs set up at the edge of the prairie for just this occasion and enjoy the woodcock nearly every spring. I recommend A SAND COUNTY ALMANAC, chapter 3.
