Once again, I only had a short time to look for birds before having to go to work. There was a lot of activity just as the sun was hitting the trees—a lot of rapid-paced feeding activity. Difficult to get on all the birds as they darted in and out thick foliage so I missed some but magnolias were easy to find. At one point I had three magnolias in one glass having some sort of aerial confrontation.

Had a Brown Thrasher at the top of a very tall tree which must be some kind of high altitude record. Also had nice views of a Blue-headed Vireo in the same tree as a Philadelphia Vireo. There were also Red-eyed vireos but I don’t recall hearing or seeing a white eyed vireo this morning.

As I was leaving, a young buck just getting antlers caught my eye. Right by him, before they scurried into the woods, I saw a female Wild Turkey with at least one mostly grown poult. I believe this is the first time I’ve actually seen turkeys at the reserve. I have found feathers and heard them but this is the first time I’ve actually seen them.

Red-tailed Hawk, Wood Ducks. A couple empid sps and Ruby-crowned Kinglets. Lots of catbirds and a few towhees calling.
