Had a very productive birding day today at Magee Marsh on the boardwalk and the Estuary Trail 8:15 am to 3:30 pm, along with Joel, Stuart and Leah Zaas.
The highlights included the large numbers of Scarlet Tanagers (they became so common we heard “oh, just another Scarlet more than once”, multitudes of Magnolia, Yellow Rumped, Yellow, Redstarts, Black and White Warblers and Cape May Warblers. It was hard to follow the binoculars, camera lenses and pointing fingers at times as there were so many to see at once. A Great-Crested Flycatcher yelled right into our ears at close range. at the edge of the boardwalk while we watched a magnificent Fox Snake uncoil itself. 3 Sandhill Cranes were in the marsh at the curve of the road between the parking area for the boardwalk and the visitor center - a nice farewell addition to the days list! It was a Good Day! We missed Canada and Mourning Warbler to name a few of our target birds, but there is always next time.
