Good morning,
On July 25, Jen Brumfield observed two Red Crossbills at Lake Hope State
Park, specifically at the iron furnace cabin campground. Following this,
Alex Eberts successfully captured vocalizations of a couple birds, leading
Tim Spahr to confirm the subspecies of the crossbills: Type 1
(Appalachian), a first state record! Both Steve Borgwald and Kent Miller
have captured great photographs recently, showing very strongly possible
fledging of crossbills recently. As many as eight birds, of different age
and plumage, have been observed. Six were last reported yesterday afternoon
(8/1) at the archery range “in the clearing downhill from target #6”.
