I birded up in Ashtabula Co. today, starting at Conneaut harbor.  I spent all morning there, and came up with: wood ducks, gadwall, n. pintails, buffleheads, hooded mergansers, 196 red-breasted mergansers, horned grebes, pied-billed grebes, double-crested cormorants, great blue herons, bald eagle, Am. coots, 11 dunlin, Bonaparte's gulls, and belted kingfisher.  Next I went to Lakeshore Park in Ashtabula.  There was a surf scoter there, also hooded mergansers, red-breasted mergansers, ruddy duck, horned grebes, and double-crested cormorant.  On the way southeast from there I saw one Am. kestrel in Denmark Twp. and 3 kestrels in Pierpont Twp.  My last stop was at Pymatuning L. (Ohio side).  The small mudflat area at the west end of the causeway was frozen, so no shorebirds.  Along the causeway I did see ruddy ducks, double-crested cormorant, bald eagle, and Bonaparte's gulls.  Craig Holt, Lowellville, Mahoning Co.
