I couldn’t get out today until around 3 PM which obviously wasn’t optimal but I still picked up 4 FOS warblers: N Parula, prairie warbler (heard only), Louisiana Waterthrush (heard only) and Yellow-throated. The first N Parula I found was singing an interesting alternate song with a stairstep pattern at the beginning instead of a steady rising trill.

Also heard my FOS White-eyed Vireo.

Birds were on Marie Hickey trail except the Yellow-throated which was on the paved bike trail singing from near the top of a sycamore tree—ah, the beginning of many hours of warbler neck...

I did pretty well on woodpeckers and was surprised by a beautiful adult red-headed woodpecker, a species I’ve not seen at Blackhand Gorge before. Also had pileated, Downy, flicker and red-bellied.

Several E Towhees. Both House & Carolina Wrens.
