On Sunday, June 17, Pat Hayes, Paula Bartlett, and I conducted the
15th June monthly census. 66 species and 8254 individuals were
observed on the census route. The 15 year average for the June census
is 61 species and 3245 individuals, so both numbers were up. Two new
species were added to the June census list. Those were a Marsh Wren
at the North Pond and a singing male Black-throated Blue Warbler along
the North Pond trail. This individual is believed to be a late
migrant. Unusual June species included two Great Black-backed Gulls
(3rd time) and six Caspian Terns (4th time). Only surprising miss was
Belted Kingfisher. Weather was comfortable in the 70'sand 80's for
the census with 5-10 mph winds out of the south-southeast and
basically partly cloudy to overcast skies.
