A nice sunny morning found very few migrants scattered along these two
river corridors, if my sampling of the parks along them was any
indication. I started at Scioto Audubon, then worked north to the OSU
wetland off Ackerman, then finishing at Whetstone Park. Not many residents
singing, but few obvious migrants were out. Notables included:
Herons,Egrets - 7 Great Egrets and 4-5 Great Blue Herons were in the pool
above Greenlawm dam at Scioto Audubon
Waterfowl - nothing other than a scattering of Wood Ducks, Mallards, and
Canada Geese
Shorebirds - absolutely nothing
Hummingbird - a single female was hanging around the pocket prairie at
Whetstone
Flycatchers - WoodPewees widespread, but common only at Whetstone (4-5). A
lone Phoebe was at Scioto Audubon
Vireos - Warblings common and singing at all sites along the riverside;
Scioto Audubon had 4-5
Swallows - nothing, which was surprising here.
Gnatcatchers - scarce, with only singles at Scioto and Whetstone
Thrushes - few; even Robins were uncommon
Warblers - scarce, but did have 2 Redstarts & Magnolia at OSU wetland, and
a Parula & Wilson's at Whetstone. Surprisingly, nothing at Scioto.
Buntings,Grosbeaks - nothing
Orioles, blackbirds - a few Grackles at each site
