Staked out the boardwalk at Spring Valley for three hours yesterday morning
(Tuesday, 5/11) and for an hour today before the torrent without locating
the Purple Gallinule that was observed on Sunday.
Anyone visiting Spring Valley to try for the Gallinule might take a short
(1/2 mile) side trip to the fallow field at the corner of Old Stage and
Sears Roads (Old Stage comes into Rte. 42 from the east a quarter mile north
of the turn on Roxanna-New Burlington Road for Spring Valley). This morning
I counted 20 Dickcissels here, many singing, and that was in just 15
minutes. My thanks to the birder who posted the sighting of these birds on
eBird!
Bird well,
Paul
