"The Delicate Politics of Chasing Owls." I agree with the author that
the best way to educate folks about watching owls is to
give them a gander. I recommend a nice woodsy cemetery--especially an
rban one--where you and the birds have plenty of space; owls deserve the
most because they of course live there, and they are used to humans. Go
out of your way to show a youngster a distant owl up in a tree; show his
or her parents, too--at least if they're unarmed. Tell the kid some
secrets about owls and their need to hide. Show the kid how to respect
at a distance, offering your optics as an aid. Chances are that kid will
someday help some loutish grown-up to treat owls with respect.
