After a 4 mile hike in Fernwood SP we decided to see if the Ravens reported earlier were still present
on CR 43. When we arrived, there were 5 Black Vultures on or near the carcass with 15 Turkey
Vultures in the air. THe Ravens were in a locust grove to the right. As we approached, the vultures
left the area and the Ravens began feeding on the deer. We had good close looks and got to hear the
distinctive call when we drove by. Two of the birds had a fair amount of white speckling on the back
and coverts.
Precise location- North on SR 43 from US 22. First road to right is CR 43. THe carcass is
approximately 1/2 mile down the road on the right. If you pass the Walmart Distribution center, you
have gone too far on SR 43.
