Between 40 and 50 nighthawks flew over my yard in Perry county last evening, between about 5:00 and 6:30. This was a high for the fall, if you can call this fall. The thing that still puzzles me about this is that they were all flying north, as have almost all of the dozen or so seen earlier. A friend suggested that this might be hurricane related, like the flamingos, but this was before and after the hurricane. If anyone has any birdbrained ideas about this, let me know. The only guess I have is reverse migration.
