I checked out the Quarry west of Columbus where the Neotropic Cormorant has been reported. Viewing conditions are, shall we say, not optimal thru the chain link fence and Parking is very limited but I was still able to get excellent looks especially through the scope at the bird.

It was fascinating to watch it do a display with wing flapping & the mouth wide open, even the gular pouch inflated! It was easy to pick up the white field marks around the face. Good comparison to the many DC Cormorants nearby & fun to see the double crests on them. Wish one could get close enough to hear the vocalizations.

V cool to see the rookery busy with Great Blue Herons & the DC Cormorants on nests or still working on them.

I didn’t stay long and didn’t see the Great Egret.

Too bad there isn’t a viewing platform for this quarry.
