My wife and I drove from Wooster out to Ashland County to the Amish farm
where the northern wheatear has been spotted on a nearby woodpile. When we
arrived, about 3:30pm, the bird was on the top of the wood pile, with about
a dozen people watching on the lawn from about 30ft away. The bird stood
there cooperatively for about 10 minutes, then flew off. People waited
around for it to return. About 30 minutes later, it appeared atop a
telephone poll near the driveway and then flew back to the wood pile. There
it posed well, looking back at the nearly 25 people now on the lawn staring
at it with cameras clicking.

It is a pretty bird in non-breeding plumage with a rusty breast, white
eyeline, and white and black tail. The people at the house told us they
first spotted it last Thursday evening, so it has now been there nearly
four days. Though a suggestion has been made to park in the back, to get
there one has to drive right past the woodpile within 5-10 feet. Most of us
parked along the entrance drive and walked in to the yard, which seems a
better idea to me. Randy Rowe, Wooster
