We spent the gorgeous morning hiking these two sites in the hilly country of E.Licking County. Aside from scattered patches of pines & hemlocks, the world is very sere and leafless in these parts (unlike around Columbus, where some of the plants are still vaguely green). Most of the rivers & creeks were ice-free, but ponds were frozen. Birds were widely scattered, but the totals did include:
Red-headed Woodpeckers - 3 at Flint Ridge Preserve
Pileated Woodpeckers - singles calling at both the Gorge and Flint Ridge
BrownCreeper - at least 2 in the woods at Flint Ridge Preserve
WinterWren - 1 calling along the Blackhand Gorge Trail
Golden-cr.Kinglets - 2+ along Blackhand Gorge Trail
