Many thanks to Rob Thorn for posting about calamus swamp, an area I never even knew about, much less birded. I never get tired of seeing Winter Wrens so I made a trip there today although not at an optimal time. I did manage to see one Winter Wren which crept along some low logs, then flew underneath the boardwalk and perched momentarily before disappearing all together.

I saw a small flock of robins as well as White-throated Sparrows. There were a couple American Tree as well song sparrows. Two Golden-crowned Kinglets. Downy and Red-bellied woodpeckers but not much else.

A few kestrels along the roadside as well as some perched Red-taileds were the only raptors although there was a pair of adult bald eagles at Pick Ponds where I stopped briefly on the way back home. The only ducks I saw there were mallards along with Canada geese. The only swans appeared to be mute swans but I didn’t scope them.

great to be out on a sunny winter day.
