I could not agree more with Bob Royse et al

But Kim taps into what I was going to say. IMHO, 4 letter codes have an appeal for those Facebook texting savy, online, "young" birders. FWIW, it is not an elitist thing. But I do hope birders post all their reports in a spelled out inviting manner. FWIW,

Alpha codes are really helpful when taking field notes, but, I never use
them when posting in public forums to avoid confusion. Well, not unless  it's
to confuse people on Ben Warner's Facebook page, and then I only do it
occasionally!  :  )
