Today I made a wide sweep of areas where I have nest boxes. Prothonotary Warblers were present in every area and often in good numbers. With all the adults that have been banded in the past two years it almost appears that they raided a jewelry store. I previously asked that anyone who observes a Prothonotary Warbler with leg bands consider trying to identify the band colors by leg and send me the information. I thank each of you who have sent me information, often including some terrific pictures. Your help is very greatly appreciated.

Areas visited today include Mudhen Marsh (boxes on north side of Big Walnut Road), 5 PROWS; Oxbow Road, 3 PROWS; Wiese Road, 3 PROWS; Area L, 7 PROWS; Little Walnut Creek, 12 PROWS; Area M, 4 PROWS; Area N, 12 PROWS; Old Sunbury Road, 12 PROWS; Eastshore Yacht Club, 2 PROWS. This weekend we hope to get the HMS Hoover into the water to survey the islands and areas not accessible via land routes.

Some additional species observed today include Bald Eagles (at nest), Osprey, Green Heron, Hooded Merganser (hen), Spotted Sandpiper, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Red-headed Woodpeckers (12), Yellow-throated Vireo, Veery, Gray-checked Thrush, Swainson's Thrush, Wood thrush, Warblers: Tennessee, Nashville, Northern Parula, Yellow-throated, Yellow, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green, American Redstart and Common Yellowthroat; Orchard Orioles and Baltimore Orioles. Gary Catbird numbers were so high it was almost ridiculous.

A word of warning. The Boardwalk at Area M looks like Fisherman's Wharf. The parking lot was filled to capacity and cars were parked on the grass all around Front Street. The fish are running and the fishermen show up early.
