On this sunny day, although still quite chilly with a stiff wind blowing, I was anxious to get out and decided to enjoy a change of scenery so I drove up to Killdeer Plains. They had a lot more ice and snow there and it was quite lovely as most of the trees and shrubs were encased in ice and were sparkling in the sun. However, with the wind blowing and the sun out, ice was also cascading off the trees onto the car which was a bit disconcerting.

I didn’t encounter anything unusual but it was great to see a number of Tundra Swans and I also had a couple Trumpeter Swans. Ducks: mallards, gadwall, American widgeon as well as a couple hooded mergansers. There was a small but vocal group of Sandhill Cranes. Many Canada Geese.

I did not see a Rough-legged which I had hoped to see but saw a couple Red-taileds, a few kestrels on the wires, a few N Harriers. At one point, there were five Bald Eagles in the air near one another, four adults and one immature with another immature sitting on the ice. It looked like one pair of adults was perhaps driving out the immature as they were mixing it up quite a bit. TVs and a couple Blacks while driving near Delaware.

Had Am Tree Sparrows in a couple spots, a few juncos as well as some Horned Larks in the fields. One N Mockingbird. Heard a few Red-winged Blackbirds.
