I waited about 30 minutes or so at the south pond deck. Then it flew low overhead
and back to its nesting area. A nice look! 195 I think for the big year.
I need to check my excel chart again. I was soaked..... but got the bird! I didn't
think that much rain coming or I wouldn't have started walking down the paths!
Worked out..... i carry a plastic bag for camera and phone. They got put in it.
Blue Grosbeak singing and seen near where I had before. Although maybe a
different individual. I am sure breeding there. It was a shrubby, weedy field
area near a factory. Near the main parking lot. I enjoyed watching it. And a quick
pic as the rain started up again...... which also led me to come home. I was soaked.
And more rain. I will try again for alder when there again. That could be a migrant
though. They migrate late.
Misses so far this year for the big year - Canada warbler, BT Green, BT Blue, Wilson's,
Bobolink, Purple Finch, RB Nuthatch, Ross's Goose. BC Night heron! Terns
besides Caspian.... Vesper Sparrow. I will be checking ebird for june sightings
around my SW Ohio big year area. Breeders hopefully, so I might stand a
chance getting some of these missed birds! I need to track down a perched
up Grasshopper Sparrow somewhere. I can't hear that song anymore unless really
close....
Good birding all.
