The Roseate Spoonbill first reported yesterday continued at Mallard Marsh
off the Wood Duck picnic area this morning, offering some good views when
it chose to rest on a dead tree. Around 10 AM it flew north to the far end
of the marsh, and appeared to settle in to feed, though out of sight.
Other birds around the ponds were typical for the date, including

Herons&egrets - Great Blues and Great Egrets scattered in many locations;
also 5-6 Green Herons around Teal Pond and Mallard Marsh

Shorebirds - water still quite high, but did find some Killdeer, Least
Sandpipers, and Lesser Yellowlegs. Probably more, but many pools were
obscured by high weeds.

Waterfowl - the expected Mallards and Wood Ducks were joined by 12+
Blue-winged Teal (mostly Greenwing Pond) and 3 N.Shovelers (Pintail Marsh)

Osprey - still an adult and begging juvenile around the platform in
Arrowhead Marsh

Raptors - 2 Cooper's Hawks were around Mallard Marsh, while a Red-tailed
Hawk was at Ellis Pond

Swallows - flocks along the wires on Bowen Rd included mostly Barns and
Rough-wings, but also had 1 Purple Martin and 2-3 Banks
