Yesterday my wife, daughter and I went to Marion County. Despite the horrible weather (bitter cold and windy) we had a great birding.
At the newer Wetlands preserve On SR203 just north of 739 we saw:
Lesser Scaups (score)
Hooded Merganser 4-6
Northern Shoveler (10-15)
Trumpeter Swans (2)
American wigeon m&f
Buffleheads male and female
At a pond on T-84:
Canvas backed
N. Pintail
In addition to hundreds of Canada Geeses
Finally, at a small pond on LaRue Prospect Rd just south of Keener Pike:
Red head m and f. Plus more L. Scaups.
Strangely we saw no Mallards.
