Greenlawn Spillway 3 - 4 pm; where we had pretty much the same
experience Bill described; well worth the effort. I have found only
12 records of Mew Gull in Ohio nearly all from Erie since the first at
Lorain November 29, 1981; there are probably a few more I missed
(maybe Bill Whan confirm i.e. I know it was recorded as recently as
2012 and 2016). Peterjohn (2001) mentions five all brachyrynchus the
latest Fairpoint Harbor March 6 +, 1998. I believe, however, canus
has been recorded at least twice including one in Peterjohn Lucas
County Jan. 6. 1995. It makes sense to me the first inland record for
Ohio would be from Franklin :-)

Other gulls, birds noted:

RBGU 85 (ad., one 1st cycle)
HEGU 11 (8 ad., 2 2nd cycle, 1 1st cycle)
GBBG 1 (1st cycle; many photos; appeared at 4 pm as we were leaving
sitting on spillway; was there when we left). Rare perhaps annual to
central Ohio but few records (has been recorded here before as well as
Hoover Dam and SWACO and Alum Creek, Del.)

AMWI 4
Mallard 12
HOME 8

Hermit Thrush 2
Eastern Towhee 4
WTSP 15
Northern Cardinal 11

Battelle Darby, Kulhwein Rd., marsh (from mound at parking lot); one hour

GWFG 74 overhead, one flock, southbound Kuhlwein Rd. 5 pm
CANG 88 overhead, three flocks, largest 55
NOTH 11 (10 f., 1 ad. m.)
SEOW 3 (hunting, east side of marsh 515 pm)

Happy New Years everyone
