Mary C. and I hit Hueston Woods and scanned Lake Acton for needed
Butler big year species. Not too many overlooks in Butler - it’s mostly
Preble. I am losing track of what I need for my Butler big year. After
Spending Jan. Working on the Jan. 100 in a few counties down here in
SW Ohio! 2 Canvasback were new! I missed that for the Jan. 100.
They were reported in another area of Butler too today. Black Duck
Is back, etc. another one missed for the Jan. 100. It was bitter cold
This morning and windy. It did warm up. But I was too cold by the afternoon.
I am not a cold weather person. I would say 75 percent of Acton Lake
Was frozen. Surprised me a bit. But it is a smaller reservoir.
We started in Indiana. We had wanted to see the big Crane numbers.
Oh boy did we! 9500 along the Dunlapsville Rd. Causeway. The north
Side exposed mudflats. There’s a couple parking places at the east end.
Just to see and hear that many!! Wow. A couple other spots we hit were
Not as productive. I know that probably has to do with time of day, etc.
We were quite happy with this! Timing was noon. I presume they come
Back from the farm fields to roost here?
Good birding all.
