I rarely have good luck at Hebron Fish hatchery but since I was going to check out Buckeye Lake this morning, I swung by and I’m glad I did. As I pulled up, I saw two yellowlegs and when I scoped the small group, it was two Lesser Yellowlegs and one dowitcher, I presume Short-billed. As I was starting to scan another area, a Wilson’s Snipe flew right into the scope view! So that was really cool—a trifecta of FOS shorebirds in one small area. I also spotted the lone Snow Goose hanging out with a large group of Canada Geese. Belted KF & a couple Great Blue Herons.
Buckeye Lk didn’t have a whole lot but from the spillway area, I saw a large group of Ruddy Ducks, over 50, and then a smaller group of Lesser Scaup, perhaps 12-15. A few mallards and some coots plus a Pied-billed Grebe. I did not see the Osprey that has been mentioned in a few posts.
I didn’t see any swallows.
Yesterday at Denison, I enjoyed hearing my FOS Field Sparrows singing on the first day of spring. Only other sparrows were Song & a couple White-throated. At least 2 E Towhees calling back & forth.
