Hello Everybody:
Spring has arrived!! We enjoyed seeing the first Tree
Swallows at our place. It is always a thrill to have them return each year. We
maintain a 60 nestbox trail on our property. We have had great success with these
"little guys" using most of these nestboxes. Of course, we also enjoy the
beautiful Eastern Bluebird.
On Tuesday I went over to Pleasant Hill Lake and observed 5
Bald Eagles standing out on the remaining ice on the lake. I would assume they
are migrants (3 adults, 2 juveniles).
That evening I drove to Malabar Farm with the purpose of
observing salamanders at a vernal pool. I didn't find salamanders, but I really
enjoyed the "serenading" calls of 4 Eastern Woodcocks ( "peent") at
sunset. Their courting ritual is something else.
What a nice day in Mohican Country!

Country)
