It was worth standing out in the cold late this afternoon. Not only did I see the Snowy Owl perched as usual on the dam, today about halfway up the rip rap, but there was a Short-eared Owl staked out farther down.

After I’d been there at least a half hour, I tore myself away from the Snowy to see if I could get any photos of the Short-eared. Somebody suddenly called out that the snowy it was in flight and flying our direction. The Short-eared didn’t wait long before launching itself away from the snowy. The snowy settled not too far from where the Short-eared had been but the Short-eared made at least one pass over the snowy before I lost sight of it quickly retreating out of sight.

Pretty exciting and hard to watch, much less photograph, two owls at the same time but I’m not complaining! Wow.
