Up to 68 down here! I picked up 12 today. Nothing out of the ordinary I don’t think -
Field and Swamp Sparrows were a goal. Success! The east fork prairie trail. That
Area always has a good flock. Only about 1/2 the birds of last week though on
The East Fork CBC. Same with other sparrow flocks. I am finding stuff, but
Numbers are down from last week. Still lots of berries around, so not sure what is
Going on. I started at East Fork south beach. Trying to find the Bonie we had
Last week on the count. No success. Could have been in that mega Ring billed
Flock though. No waterfowl on the lake. ????? Strange. I think. So I ended up at
The Newtown gravel pit and Lake Barber. Coots and Ruddy Ducks were new. Plus
RN Ducks, Gadwall, black ducks, etc.
Andrew called. He refound that humongous mixed blackbird flock near Round
Bottom Rd. In Clermont county. A site to see as they streamed over the road!
So picked up Grackle and RW Blackbird. Too far and fast for me to pick out
Rusty.
I was debating all last night to go with this plan, or head west and hit Fernald
And environs. I went east! I had wanted to get missing passerines before the
deep freeze hit. Although this could push waterfowl on too. Choices, choices…
I tried the Clermont county airport again for Meadowlark. Success! 12. And I
Only saw because a Harrier put them up. Gale W. had told me where she had them.
By the green containers. Yep! They are in that field in between the two groups of
Green. I never did see on the ground. Thank you Harrier!
Tues. Looks like a non birding day…. Maybe a Coopers Hawk will stake out the
Feeders. I still need a Coopers.
I am still iffy on 100! I am giving it a good try!
Good birding all!
