I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a ptarmigan. The entire history of
eBird shows 3 Willow Ptarmigans in the northeast US. The nearest was near
Watertown, NY in April 2014. Interestingly, other 2 records (VT and ME)
were also in the spring. Rock and White-tailed have no records in the
eastern US. There could be other records that are not in eBird of course.
