A bit Warm & sticky but wanted to get some birding/walking in. Nothing unusual but a decent species variety. Best was a Chat perched up and going thru its repertoire complete with shaking its entire body when chattering. Also heard KY, Com YT, & Hooded warblers.
Heard one YB Cuckoo but couldn’t spot it. Ditto a couple singing/chick-burring Scarlet Tanagers.
Wood thrushes, Acadian FCs, Peewees still calling/singing. Also had White-eyed Vireos and Indigo Buntings.
No swallows but E Bluebirds at the swallow field. Only sparrows Song & Field. Lots of towhees and catbirds.
A female Wood Duck was with 4 nearly grown ducklings. Green Heron.
A lot of mowing has been done recently at the reserve with some fields mowed in a checkerboard pattern. Half of the swallow field was mown. I don’t pretend to know what’s the best mowing strategy for an area like this but hope the nesting/fledging birds’ habitat needs were considered.
