Karin Tanquist and Bill Toneff and I had a lovely evening at Summit County's Nimisila Reservoir last night, shared with easily 4,000 Purple Martins. We arrived at the Summit Metro Parks boat launch parking area on the SE corner of the reservoir about 7:15 and stayed until 8:40.
The height of this amazing avian display was between 8:15-8:35 as the sky nearly darkened with Purple Martins swirling all about in huge flocks before eventually dropping down to roost for the evening in the grass islands.
The fact that all of this was played out against a gorgeous, colorful sunset was a special treat, adding to one of Ohio's great wildlife spectacles.
