I wish I would do better with updates through Listserv.
The last few days have been a lot of fun, checking normal spots throughout Proctorville, Proctorville Park and surrounding areas have produced. Proctorville Park looks absolutely amazing right now for shorebirds, but only had a few killdeer this morning when I checked. Over the weekend, there were good numbers of Savannah Sparrows, and mixed in with them I found (4) Vesper Sparrow. Other notable species last week at Pville Park:
(1) American-Golden Plover
(10) Pectoral Sandpiper
(1) Lesser Yellowlegs
(11) Wilson’s Snipe
Today, I woke up to FOY Yellow-throated Warbler and Louisiana Waterthrush in my yard, and a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. Also had (4) Purple Finch at my feeders over the weekend.
A small wetland in Proctorville at the Abundant Life Church property, I saw my FOY Sora and Virginia Rail, within 15ft of each other! Not sure I’ve seen a VARA that cared less about me in it’s presence? Totally worth laying in the goose poop for pics and videos! Rusty Blackbirds and Blue-winged Teal have been there the last few days, too.
Should be a lot of fun the next few weeks! As my friend Janet said this morning in a group text, “It’s happening!”
Good birding,
