I hit here this afternoon as the rain and snow showers would have
been difficult at Rowe Woods. I still think thats my best area for
the winter finches for my big year. Anyway, Hawley can be birded
from one's car. Not easily in bad weather, but doable! I don't have
much experience with the area, but my favorite spot is about
1/2 mile in from the south end. Today I had better success with the
birds in the corn stubble fields. Might be because I was scanning
every inch since I didn't see the flock on the barer ground!
I had one Longspur in the corn. Then the flock flew. Three Longspurs!
And many more Larks than I saw in the corn on the ground.

I would like to find another spot this year. But it is good coming back
to the same spot, too. Seeing the changes. I want a Snow Bunting now.

Theres some dirt and grass mounds around a work building. I had
a Savannah Sparrow there. And Songs. And I get the “regular” birds
at a house and brushy area further down the road.

Good birding all.
