I once saw a Grackle repeatedly attack and then carry off a fledgling Starling. I wouldn't have thought a Grackle could take off with that much weight. Encouraged by recent postings, I went to Woods Road in Darke County. I wasn’t disappointed as I saw
10 White-rumped Sandpipers
10 Semipalmated Sandpipers
1 late Pectoral Sandpiper
1 Spotted Sandpiper
1 peep that was most likely a Least, it was foraging in the drier mud behind the wet area and appeared browner than the Semis.
A Dickcissel and a Savannah Sparrow perched on the utility wires nearby for nice looks.
