Happy holidays,

At a little after 2 this afternoon, I found a Red-throated Loon at Atwood Lake. Initially the bird was in Carroll county as I was scoping from the beach area by the campgrounds. The bird made it’s way west across the Tuscarawas Co line as it dove and fed. This bird was a “classic” RT Loon compared to the juvenile that we had by the dam a few weeks ago, which made the ID much easier.

After crossing back into Carroll, it preened for a moment and took off east towards Dellroy. I didn’t relocate the bird, but I did try.

This was my 214th species seen in Carroll county. A cool little gift on a snowy Saturday.

Jon Cefus
