Hi,

For me the utility of this listserve is the non sighting based discussion.
eBird now works great for finding out about rarities.  However you don't
get discussion about conservation, habitat and history on eBird or
Facebook.  Facebook tends to be cliquish too.   On the other hand this list
has pretty clear guidelines about what is acceptable and for the most part
they are well adhered to by both participants and the list owner.
