Today I think I found a Sharp shinned hawk nesting in a tree cavity on my property in Perry County. All I really found was the tail feathers of the bird protruding across the cavity. I had a scope and could clearly see the tail move up and down consistent with a breathing bird. The problem is, sharpies are not supposed to nest in cavities. Therefore, I have attached the ebird report I made with photos of the tail. If any of you wise birders out there would care to look at these photos and give me your opinion of what this is, I would greatly appreciate it.
By the way, this nest site is only about 100 yards away from a great horned owl nest site, which I believe now has chicks. Whoever is nesting there, I wish them luck. The last great horned owl we had nesting here ate up a whole family of red shouldered hawks. One year they ate my dog, but that was April 1, but since humor is no longer permitted on this site, that will not happen again.
