I drove up to the Lake today hoping to find some shorebirds on the Ottawa
auto tour. All I found was a truly miserable slog through the rain. I
finished off the afternoon at Magee Marsh where I found a Cattle Egret on
the way out. It was foraging in the grass along the road where it runs
between the two canals north of the visitors center. It was a small,
all-white heron, with a sort of a butch-cut head, a disproportionately thick
bill and a strong jaw line. The neck was short and thick. The legs thick
and black. There were no buffy plumes anywhere on the bird. I have photos
which I will post tomorrow.

Bottom line: shoulda gone to East Fork.

Cheers,

Bob
