I finally got around to checking for the Blue Grosbeaks that have been reported on Swamp Road. I wasn’t there at an optimal time in the morning but in any case, I did not see or hear Blue Grosbeaks, just Indigo Buntings. However, I was delighted to find a large group of Cliff Swallows intermingled with Tree and Barn Swallows as well as a few Purple Martins. They were quite vocal so it was interesting to listen to the different flight notes the swallows make. Other birds: 2 or 3 Kestrels, Great Egret, Great Blue Heron, Killdeer, Com YT, Song Sparrow.

At the Wood Duck area at Pick Ponds, I found a few shorebirds at the far reaches of my scope from the observation tower: 2 Greater YLs, 1 Lesser YLs 2 peeps which I believe were Semi-palmated SPs, 1 Spotted SP & 1 Dowitcher sp prob Short-billed? I thought I could see a whitish belly but all the birds were quite distant and heat waves didn’t help. Only Duck was Mallard. A few Great Egrets & Great Blues, DC Cormorants, Killdeer. One Osprey was eating a fish on the platform across from the office while another was on the platform seen from the main area by the restrooms.
